Role: Assess & Improve the UX/UI of the app

For this project I was hired because the first iteration of app was done but the stakeholders were not satisfied with the outcome and needed drastic changes in features, flow and UI of the app.

I was also actively present with the development team to keep the work focused on updates and do the required changes in the app.

PURPOSE OF RESUME LIVE

A platform designed for job seekers to find their dream job with least hassle.

The app assists to provide guidance from Professional Recruiters in interview preparations, record professional interviews of candidates for employers to watch and assess without you being present. It’s aimed to get as much information of a candidate as possible before even initiating an interview.

GAP IN THE MARKET

No guidance & professional help in preparation of interviews before the actual interview

Research on the topic provided evidence that the process of finding and hiring candidates is not quite efficient in current market and can be more shortened to find the right one. To remove this gap in the market, this app introduces a feature to prepare the candidates with a Pre-interview session with a professional Recruiter. And then allowing to record a professional interview with a recruiter which gets added to the candidate’s profile.

Employers can better judge if a candidate is best suitable or not before even the interview process starts.

TESTING OF AVAILABLE VERSION

Identify Issues & Pain Points

The available version of Resume Live was tested with 40 potential users of different background. This was a crucial step to be performed for understanding the user’s pain points in order to upscale it. The test sessions were recorded and observed to analyze where it was lacking. The same users were then interviewed to get their feedback and note the difficulty while asking some interview questions as below:

  1. Was the overall experience of the application positive or negative?

  2. Tell me briefly about your experience on the app?

  3. Would you prefer to use it again later?

  4. Which was the most frustrating feature of the application for you?

  5. Which was the most user-friendly and smooth feature for you?

  6. Were you comfortable in the interview preparation session with the recruiter?

  7. Do you have any other job hunting application installed which you often use? If yes, would you like to share the name?

  8. Do you have any other job posting application installed which you often use? If yes, would you like to share the name?

  9. Were you successful in finding a few candidate profiles according to your job description in a reasonable time?

IDENTIFIED PROBLEM 01 & ITS SOLUTION

Resume Creation & Template Feature proved to be a major experience failure

The feature was focused on theme, color, fonts and such details as is in a desktop resume creation tool which was hard for users to do in small screen sizes.

Replaced by Simpler Form Fields

  • Transformed into a relatively simpler form, suitable for mobile sizes.

  • Reduced to fewer clicks to input all relevant details of a candidate.

  • Additional theme customisation options were deemed unnecessary and removed from the solution.

IDENTIFIED PROBLEM 02 & ITS SOLUTION

Employer’s Hiring Platform was a pain to navigate

This was one of the major issues in the provided version. Employers found it draining to scan potential profiles of candidates and their recorded interviews through a small screen and save those in dedicated folders and eventually make decisions.

Entire Module Shifted to Web App

  • An easy and smooth experience was achieved for employers when the module was implemented on big screen.

  • Extensive candidate details were able to be analysed without loosing focus through a web app.

  • Candidate Interviews watched on bigger screen provided space to analyse confidence, behaviour and grip on skills.

IDENTIFIED PROBLEM 03 & ITS SOLUTION

No filter feature available for candidates to do better searches

Filtering through specific skills, job-types, duration, distance etc were missing entirely.

Filter Feature implemented

  • To provide best experience to candidates, various filter options were added so the user can view only the most relevant job positions.

IMPROVEMENT 01 IN THE APPLICATION AND FLOW

Incorporated the Interview process in the app rather than manual handling by recruiter

Interview process between both parties were done by contacting on gmail and deciding a platform to proceed. Recruiter recorded the interview manually and then upload manually on his platform. An Inefficient approach.

When I presented my concept to incorporate the whole process within the mobile app for applicant, they were convinced to update it.

Process steps are:

  • User receives notification of an upcoming interview session.

  • User goes to the interview screen upon clicking and further process works exactly like zoom platform does as that is used internally.

  • Upon completion, the interview has been recorded and saved automatically and recruiter provides the performance status.

IMPROVEMENT 02 IN THE APPLICATION AND FLOW

Updated Application Interfaces and Brand Identity

The older UI implemented was quite out dated so a new minimalist and cleaner UI of the application was requested. Below are the updated UI screens,

Older version of UI design which was requested to be updated

CONCLUSIONS

Future Work & Takeaways

  • In the interviewer booking process, for the comfortability and satisfaction of applicants, they should be provided with a few different recruiter options (both genders). For a practice interview the applicant might not be comfortable with one, so should more recruiters to practice with.

  • Applicants should be allowed to create multiple resumes for different fields of jobs.
All design decisions must be backed up by solid reasoning,

  • Currently the user is suggested jobs based on its initial preferences during registration process. In the next iteration there should be a ‘categories’ filter to also see jobs based on categories.

  • Show a notification on home page for reminder of upcoming booked session.

  • More and continuous testing should be conducted to make the app work best.
